What does the MONOCHROME map look like?
MONOCHROME takes place across two halves: a small upstairs lobby and a large basement maze. You wake in a sealed room beside the elevator; the lobby also holds the lock panel with four indicator lights, the keypad, and a boarded doorway marked DO NOT ENTER. Prying that doorway open leads down a staircase into an abandoned network of near-identical rooms and corridors, where every dresser is an openable drawer and wooden wardrobes offer hiding spots. The game never labels any room, so the names below are descriptive rather than official.
ROBLOX - MONOCHROME - [Full Walkthrough]
| Area | What you find there |
|---|---|
| Spawn room / lobby | Where you wake; the elevator, the lock panel with four indicator lights, and the keypad |
| DO NOT ENTER doorway | Boarded doorway in the lobby; hold E to pry the planks off and open the way down |
| Staircase | Connects the lobby to the basement corridor network |
| Basement corridors | Repeating rooms lined with dresser drawers (keys) and wardrobes (hiding spots) |
| The pale block | Sits somewhere in the maze with the four-digit code slip on top |
Where are the keys and the code on the map?
Keys only ever appear inside dresser drawers in the basement, and the four-digit code is printed on a slip of paper resting on a pale block somewhere in the maze. Neither is fixed to one memorized location — placement moves between runs, so a route you memorized last week can quietly mislead you today. The reliable pattern is to sweep room by room, leave opened drawers open as markers, and read the code slip the moment you spot the block. The per-key search habits live in the keys guide, and the code itself is explained in the door code guide.
Does the map change between updates?
Yes — the layout is not locked down yet. MONOCHROME is in active early development and walkthrough guides explicitly warn that the corridor layout can shift between builds, with the game’s page updated as recently as September 13, 2026. Part two, which the developer has confirmed is in the works, is expected to grow the corridors further. Practical rule: re-learn the layout after every update instead of trusting an old mental map.
How do you avoid getting lost in the corridors?
The basement is a maze of near-identical gray rooms, and losing your bearings costs far more time than the monster does. Walk it with a system: remember which direction the stairs are in relative to the elevator, clear one wing of rooms at a time, and lean on the furniture itself as breadcrumbs. The wardrobe half of that system is explained in the monster guide.
The full route as a checklist
- Note the elevator, lock panel and keypad in the spawn lobby.
- Pry the planks off the DO NOT ENTER doorway and take the stairs down.
- Sweep one wing of rooms at a time, opening every dresser drawer.
- Leave opened drawers open so you never re-clear a room.
- Carry each key straight upstairs and insert it at the lock panel.
- Read the four digits off the slip on the pale block when you pass it.
- Enter the code at the keypad, then press Open Elevator once all four lights are green.
