FAQ

How long does a full MONOCHROME run take?
Roughly ten to twenty minutes while you are still learning the maze. A clean solo speedrun has been recorded at about four and a half minutes.
Can you beat MONOCHROME solo?
Yes. The run works solo from the party menu, and most full walkthrough videos are recorded solo. Server size is up to twenty players, but nothing requires a group.
What do you do after finding all four keys?
Insert each at the lock panel beside the elevator until four indicator lights are green, read the four-digit code from the slip on the pale block, and enter it at the keypad.
What happens if you die during the run?
You respawn at the elevator lobby upstairs. Keys already inserted stay inserted, and the keypad code does not change within the same run.
Is there more than one ending?
One ending is currently known: the elevator ride out, followed by a black screen reading Thank You For Playing with a note that part two is in development.

How do you complete MONOCHROME from start to finish?

The full route is a fixed sequence of eight steps wrapped around two independent locks: four keys for the mechanical deadbolts and a four-digit code for the electronic keypad on the elevator. You cannot reorder the locks — the keypad does nothing until the keys are in — so the run is really a search problem wrapped around a memorized exit routine.

StepWhat you do
1Press Enter the House and read the tutorial slides
2Note the elevator, lock panel and keypad in the spawn lobby
3Hold E to pry the planks off the DO NOT ENTER doorway
4Sweep the basement corridors and open dresser drawers until you hold four keys
5Insert each key at the lock panel — one indicator light turns green per key
6Read the four digits printed on the slip atop the pale block
7Enter the digits at the keypad beside the elevator, slowly and in order
8Press Open Elevator when all four lights are green, then ride out

What happens in each phase of the run?

Each phase has its own page because each one is where runs are actually lost. Phase one is orientation — the beginner guide covers the first ten minutes. Phase two is the search: the keys guide explains the drawer sweep, and the map guide keeps you from going in circles in the identical-room maze. Phase three is the exit: the door code guide explains why the number is different in every run and how to read your own.

How long does a full run take?

Plan for ten to twenty minutes on early attempts — one streamer spent twenty minutes on the code hunt alone before finding the slip. Once the loop clicks, the run collapses: a dedicated solo speedrun video sits at about four and a half minutes, and the multiplayer walkthrough below shows a full group run with a monster-mode detour.

Why won’t the elevator open?

The elevator refuses to move for exactly four documented reasons, and all of them are fixable in seconds once you know what to look for.

SymptomFix
An indicator light is still darkA key is still in a drawer or in your inventory — find and insert it
Keypad rejects the entryYou typed an extra press or the digits out of order; re-enter slowly
The panel ignores inputYou are standing too far away for the prompt to register

Died late in the run - is progress lost?

No. A death respawns you at the elevator lobby upstairs, keys already inserted stay inserted, and the keypad code remains the same for the rest of the run. The only thing a death truly costs is the walk back to wherever you were searching.
